“We live in an age of innovation, where digital technology is providing solutions to problems before we’ve even realized we needed them” -David Lidington.

To keep up with the pace, I am learning everyday and here are some bits of things that are trending in our conversation.

  1. NFT has been buzzing everywhere on the internet, you can definitely not escape it so let’s just face it.

What do we understand?

NFT ‘s are Non fungible Tokens/unique digital tokens. They are stored on public ledger called blockchain, where all the transaction are recorded.

It represents both tangible and intangible goods like art works (photos, paintings, GIFs, videos, collectibles, virtual avatars, designer sneakers, music and even celebrity tweets.

How am sharing this information with my kid?

I have had some conversations with him. I am saving some videos to show to him. attaching one here:

What is he going to do with the information?

Probably think of creating something like an art, lets give it a try.

2. Metaverse has already done its rounds now and my son is quiet familiar.

What do we know about Metaverse?

A virtual space which will soon be used for playing, learning, shopping, gaming etc.

Why do you need to know about this?

This is everywhere, this is the future. The kids will talk about it, they would like to experience this. A virtual space is a fantasy for all of us and being informed is not going to harm us in anyway.

3. Learning to code

Now that schools are teaching to code, after school classes are emphasizing on coding- there is no way kids would like to be left behind.

How to learn?

There are many platforms that are offering coding for free. We started with lesson on code.org, now my son is doing classes on code monkey. He also loves to explore scratch. He looks for various games, learns, designs etc.

4. The booming of creator economy

Kids have always been writing, drawing, making things but after the online learning fast forward button was pressed during COVID, kids have seen the power of online tools to master creativity.

They have been using Canva, Grammerly, Quill-bot, they understand the tools used in classrooms and they quickly become smart users. Uploading documents or attaching files are no biggies for them.

5. The influence of social media

Children are definitely not strangers to social media, they have their accounts, they want to put up their passion on their accounts. They want to share their blogs. Instagram feeds and reels are not new to them.

As long as kids are under supervision-guided well, its good to help them stay updated. Sharing technology news with kids and discussing the latest developments can give us a lot in common to talk about as well.
