Why my kid loves coding in Scratch?
I was surprised to see my 8 year old exploring coding on his own, I had introduced him to code.org when the Lockdown started in 2020. He would enjoy the mazes and with some help he was doing well.
This experience stayed with him and soon his school started him on code monkey. Code monkey was little different than code.org as in code monkey you write your own codes.
One day as I was exploring, I found scratch really interesting and we signed up. Soon he was learning scratch on his own, he started creating small programs and recently he made a game inspired by tutorial on You Tube.
It was nice to watch him involved and figuring the mistakes on his own, I saw him getting tired and frustrated and then trying again. He was challenging himself without waiting for me to encourage him.
Scratch is an online community where kids can learn, program and share their work with others. They can learn from others and get inspired. the joy of creating something on their own gives them the motivation to go one step further.
I remember learning DOS and visual basic in school and how I didn’t enjoy learning it at all. The option of writing codes on black screen didn’t inspire me to learn at all but now seeing the interactive apps to learn coding explains why kids are loving it.
