Now that many parents might be stressed about re-opening of the schools, hassle of packing lunches, dropping and picking the kids, I am somehow feeling comfortable that my son will be continuing online mode of education.

I can only imagine how the entire process of waking up at 6 am, running around to cook and pack breakfast, snacks and lunch used to be once upon a time. Dragging my half asleep son out of the bed to put him in the shower wasn’t easy.

The anxiety of not being able to reach on time to work, only to punch the finger scanner after 1 or 2 minutes and being marked absent. The entire day would go running around finishing tasks in the workplace and by the time we reached home, we had enough time to catch up with a little walk, cook and then preparations for next day.

But these last two years, it has been so different. Having found an online school which meets all the requirements has changed our life completely.

We have enough time to complete our sleep, the time we spent on getting ready for school has converted to the time we go for a walk/cycling. We are getting enough time to have our breakfast and lunch directly served from the pans and not out of the boxes.

Yes, the best part- we do not have to be in a place, we have been travelling. We are not restricted to our holidays to travel anymore, we are able to make most of our short vacations.

As long as we have a stable internet connection, working laptop, we are able to manage our life without worries. The hassle of carrying books is not there anymore as the curriculum is based on engaging the children to concepts and not just following the text books word to word.

Yes, outdoor play cannot be ignored and hence my son has neighbourhood friends, he gets to have uninterrupted play time in the evenings. He gets to spend enough time with friends.

Working from home can be balanced as long as the plan is laid out well and we constantly check our working hours.

The idea of being able to attend the classes from home has given wings to my dreams, I feel a lot can be done and achieved while many parents wait for their children to finish their school to take big decisions like changing cities, changing jobs, moving to another country.

Most importantly now that I have made my mind to continue with remote learning, the stress of keeping up with the news that announces school reopening/closing, all the fear of my child being exposed to the virus is away.

I can learn a new skill, I can change my job, I can shift to any city if needed, I can celebrate functions, I can travel. We both can live and not base all our decisions on the school opening and closing dates. Just to say that is such a big relief!!!

Please Note: This is my personal reflection, I understand that every family has a different situation. We all have our own stories and for some of us remote learning may be a boon and for some of us not.
