What would Metaverse bring for kids?

The internet world is no surprise for today’s kids. When the lock down was announced in March 2020, my seven year old was irritated for few days. Slowly he realized that it was easier to wake up from the bed and hop on to the class instead of spending his mornings in getting ready to reach the school on time. He could enjoy hot breakfast, watch news, help in the kitchen during his breaks between classes.

As the online classes continue, it is like the physical school never existed. The world has shifted for him- every resource is online, he is learning to code and explore the opportunities online.

Now that we are hearing about the Metaverse, my son was excited at the thought of it. According to The Verge, “The Metaverse is partly a dream for the future of the internet and partly a neat way to encapsulate some current trends in online infrastructure, including the growth of real-time 3D worlds.”

He was imagining how versatile his classes would get with the technology. One thing that really excited him was the possibility to meet his classmates in the virtual space in their virtual avatars.

He would be watching sports directly from the stadium, he could go to the time when the world began, he could see earthquakes and visit the world during his sessions. He asked me if there would a virtual world with houses and his friends living in lanes next to his and he could go for cycling and soccer.

Though everything sounds dreamy and impossible but we are going towards it and soon we will be there. What’s your opinion and how are you preparing your kid?
