Moving to my hometown in the COVID situation, I have been struggling to find a school for my son. Looking at schools here and getting an idea of how the schools function, I was frightened to send my son to local schools here.

Elon Musk on Education

Influential people like Elon Musk has been sharing his opinion on traditional schooling and how it does not meet the demands of the skills that will be required in the future. Elon musk says that fundamental element missing in the current education system is problem solving.

The other day as I requested a demo class for my son in a local school, the teacher shared the all the answers to the questions before the students could talk or discus. This did not give scope to students to ask or understand anything from the given topic, they had answers in the hand and the next step was memorising the right answers.

As Elon Musk mentions :

“I think there is still learning in school too, but judging by the time they spend online, it looks like most of their education actually comes from online,”

You can’t really deny this as there the online sessions by various experts are bringing so much to the table that the traditional schools are already outdated. Online classes provided by experts are teaching kids with so much passion and most of all learning from an artist or a professional dancer is a different experience.

Which School does Elon Musk’s children attend?

Musk’s Children attend the Ad Astra school which is not like a general school at all. Children in Ad Astra are classified according to age as they work in teams. The subjects include Artificial Intelligence (AI), applied science, coding, and design many things, one of which is making robots.

What Elon Musk thinks can fix the present education system

  1. If the teachers could explain why the current subject is taught to the students
  2. He feels explaining the why is very important as the brain has the tendency to discard the information it thinks is not relevant.
  3. Simply showing the tools to the students is not enough the students should be taught to use the tools as well.
  4. Solving the problems is important not just introducing the tools to the students.
  5. Education should be made as interesting and exciting as possible.
