Sigh! I just dodged a storm of questions.

“No, my son Is not going to traditional school” — I said

“What do you mean?” two of my cousins asked me.(almost shouted)

“All the schools have reponed now” they said

“I know but Adi is learning from home” — I said

The moment I said this they showered me with the below words

“children can’t learn from home, they will have to go to school,

how will they write IIT, JEE?

education can never run without exams,

how will they write their board exams?,

online exams are not valid, he can’t get a job, are you saying schools will disappear?

what will happen to so many school buildings?”

I smiled and answered in a relaxed way 🧘‍♂️

- Children can learn from anywhere

- Adi will choose if he wants to write IIT, JEE, it’s too early to know

- Things are changing

- He need not write board exams afterall

- May be he doesn’t need a job you know anyways it’s too early to think about it

- I am not representing the entire population, this is what I am choosing to do. people can make their own choices isn’t it?

They went hmmmmmm….

Why do people react like this when you choose an alternative learning style for your kid

-They immediately get defensive and immediately start proving to you how your decision is wrong

-Do they feel their existing knowledge is getting challenged?

-Everybody thinks they know everything about learning and education, they don’t wait to find who you are what you do and why you must be doing what you are doing.

Does this happen with you?

I can’t believe I was so relaxed as I answered them. When does that stage come when things stop upsetting you instead they help you to clear your mind? what stage is this??

I stop talking to people who don't get it, and spend time educating people with an open mind. We can never change perspectives of some people, while in the meantime, a lot of others who are open to seeing our perspectives still need lots of help.
